What should I wear?
Here are some basic photo guidelines are:
- Be comfortable.
- Complementary colors / styles look better than matchy-matchy outfits.
- Layering and accessories will bring dimension, color, and character to your images.
- Make sure your outfits are at the same level or formal / casual.
Where should we take the photos?
Think about the style you want for your shoot; nature, city / downtown, home, etc. Here are some of my suggestions for specific shoots, but remember, there is no right or wrong!
- For newborn / baby, I suggest your home.
- For family / children, I suggest going somewhere special to you that you enjoy - such as a park or ice cream shop, etc.
- For maternity, I suggest natural or city environments.
Will I get photos in Color and Black and White?
You will get both! Normally about 80% in color and 20% in black in white. If you decide you want the black and white photos changed to color, we can do that for an additional fee.
What is your shooting style?
My style is very natural and photojournalistic. I aim to shoot in as much natural light as possible. While I will coach and pose my clients during a shoot, I also allow for a lot of natural interaction to take place to achieve amazing candid photos! Also, if there are any specific poses you want, share them with me via Pinterest or text me!
Do you have any props for us to use?
Yes! I have an array of props for shoots! I also go out and prop shop for shoots when needed. I encourage clients to bring their own; anything that is personal and has special meaning. I also ask clients to share Pinterest boards or text me with any inspiration / visual ideas they have so we are on the same page. Similarly, I am hear to help with any styling questions / needs you have!
What time of day is best for lighting?
Below are my suggestions for best lighting, however, I can adapt to any situation, so if these times do not work for you, that is okay! We will make it work. :)
- If we’re shooting outdoors, we’ll get the best light if we start our session around 1.5-2 hours before sunset, or just at sunrise.
- If we’re shooting in your home, the best light depends on where your windows are! If you have east-facing windows, we’ll want to do a morning session; if you have west-facing windows, afternoon may be best.
Are pets welcome?
Absolutely! We love hanging out with furry friends during our photo sessions! After all, pets are people too! :)
